Jay Lloyd's Getaway: National Park Visit

By Jay Lloyd

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If there's a national park in your summer getaway plans as we celebrate a century of park service, there are big savings available.

Whether you travel to the majestic Tetons or a weekend ramble to Ellis Island, taking advantage of available discount passes can trigger savings that wind up paying for dinner and more.

Seniors of course, get the biggest break. If you've hit that magic age of 62, spring for $10 and score a pass that covers most general fees and offers deep discounts on special program costs. And, the pass is good for your lifetime. You can find out how to get them at the National Park Service website.

Then there's the free pass for 4th graders and an annual pass for everyone else that sells for $80. Our region is rich in federal parks and recreation areas. Favorites include Ellis Island and Gettysburg, The Delaware Water Gap and the fabulous Captain John Smith water trail through Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
