F&M Poll: Trump Takes Command Among Pennsylvania Republicans
HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- A new Franklin and Marshall College Poll shows Donald Trump has opened up a lead over the rest of the Republican presidential field in Pennsylvania.
A Franklin and Marshall College Poll released last month showed Donald Trump and John Kasich in a dogfight. But the newest F&M poll has Trump at 40-percent, Ted Cruz at 26-percent, and Kasich at 24-percent among likely Republican voters. Poll Director Terry Madonna says at the time of the last F&M survey, Kasich was coming off a win in his home state of Ohio. But since then, Madonna says Kasich's momentum has stalled.
"He has not won another state," Madonna says, "while Trump has been doing quite well in the northeast."
Among Democrats, Hillary Clinton continues to enjoy a comfortable lead over Bernie Sanders, 58-percent to 31-percent.
In the Democratic race for U.S. Senate, the F&M Poll shows Katie McGinty has closed the gap somewhat, but trails Joe Sestak by 9-points among likely voters.
"She does have momentum," Maddona says. "She's picked up an enormous amount of support since the March Franklin and Marshall College Poll."
In the race for the U.S. Senate nomination, John Fetterman places third among likely Democratic voters, with just 8-percent, while 23-percent remain undecided.
