Dairy Queen Invites Queen Elizabeth To Taste 'Royal Blizzard'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- In honor of Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday on Thursday, US royalty has sent her a regal invitation—to eat ice cream.
Dairy Queen recently launched their new Royal Blizzard Treats and they want the matriarch to be one of the first to sample the new creations. One of the treats is a twist on the classic OREO Blizzard—adding in a decadent layer of fudge to the center. Other flavors include the Royal New York Cheesecake, filled with a strawberry center and the Royal Rocky Road Brownie with peanuts and brownie pieces, filled with a marshmallow center.
The Queen hasn't accepted the invite yet but that hasn't stopped the company from starting the journey. This past week Dairy Queen has been tweeting out videos showing a blue, Blizzard-labeled cooler as it makes its way to London.

"We are so confident in the Royal Blizzard line that we're crossing the pond to invite the Queen to try our newest Blizzard Treat," said Barry Westrum, executive vice president of Marketing for American Dairy Queen Corporation. "From one queen to another, we're doing our part to make her 90th birthday her sweetest yet."

The original blizzard debuted back in 1985 and sold more than 175 million treats in its first year according to the company's history. Blizzards have only grown in popularity since then with the company featuring a new flavor each month. Many DQ locations also pride themselves on serving the frozen concoctions upside down to prove to customers the ice cream won't drip out of its container!
