Mayor Kenney Teams Up With Other Mayors; Joins Fight Against Discrimination

PHILADELPHIA, PA (CBS) -- Philadelphia mayor Jim Kenney has joined a group of mayors from around the country who are pledging to boycott any place that passes anti-LGBT laws.

Chief executives from 11 cities have joined Mayors Against Discrimination, announcing they won't do business with North Carolina or Mississippi and won't allow public funds to be used for travel to those states.

Mayor Kenney says he's not sure what actual impact that will have on Philadelphia's procurement and travel.

"I don't really care. We're not giving money to people who discriminate against other people," Kenney said. "We're not doing business with companies or states or cities that discriminate against other people."

Kenney says the steps the mayors are taking are similar to those that brought down apartheid in the 90s, and he believes they'll help end discrimination against LGBT people as well.
