Planning For Democratic Convention Going Well

By Pat Loeb

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- There may be tension between the candidates at the Democratic National Convention in July, but officials say the convention itself will be running smoothly.

"Our convention planning is on time, on task, and on budget," says Convention CEO Leah Daughtry, who has been getting the Wells Fargo Center ready to welcome some 50,000 delegates and reporters.

Daughtry says the convention committee has awarded four of its five largest contracts to minority businesses-- putting it on track to meet its diversity goals.

She says Philadelphia has been an easy place to work.

"I cannot think of a better place or a better city to showcase our party's values than here in the birthplace of American democracy, and I'm confident this convention and the city of Philadelphia will make history again in July," said Daughtry.

The convention runs July 25th to 28th.
