New Features Coming To Facebook

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Chatbots, Live video, and VR technology were all on the agenda Tuesday at Facebook's annual developer conference.

Mark Zuckerberg continued his quest to make the world a more open and connected place at the conference.

"Our ten year road-map is focused on building the technology to give everyone in the world the power to share anything they want with anyone, that's our goal," said Zuckerberg.

The social network is updating its Messenger platform, adding support for "chatbots"

"We think that you should be able to message a business the same way you message a friend. You should get a quick response, it shouldn't take your full attention like a phone call would, and you shouldn't have to install a new app," said Zuckerberg.

Early partners include CNN, which can automatically send a list of stories on Messenger. If someone wants to know more about a topic, like the Zika virus, they just ask CNN and it will respond. Same with 1-800 Flowers -- it will send a list of flower suggestions, and if you want one, just respond and say who to send it to.

"I love this one. I find it pretty ironic because now to order from 1-800-Flowers you never have to call 1-800-Flowers again," Zuckerberg joked.

He also announced Facebook LIVE will be opened up so that developers can integrate it into other apps and drones. And his long term goal is to invest in more technology to get the last few billion people in the world online.
