Police: Aide Bit Autistic Man, Hit Him With Plastic Bat

SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) — Police say a northeastern Pennsylvania man bit an autistic man he was assigned to aid.

Scranton police have charged 27-year-old Steven Lambert with biting the man's cheek and hitting him in the forehead with a plastic baseball bat. Lambert faces a preliminary hearing April 6 on charges including reckless endangerment and neglect of a care dependent person.

Police say they interviewed Lambert on Thursday and he claimed the man had been bitten by a puppy.

Police say the bite marks weren't consistent with that and that Lambert acknowledged biting the victim out of frustration, but that he didn't realize he had broken the man's skin.

Online court records don't list an attorney for Lambert.

He pleaded guilty to punching a man with the mental capacity of a small child in June 2013, and was sentenced to probation.
