PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Brooklyn has been getting a lot of attention lately. An Academy Award contender and March Madness put the spotlight on this fabled borough.
The Barclay Center joins Madison Square Garden as a premier New York sports venue. It's a signal that Brooklyn has shaken off its facade of aging warehouses and down-at-the-heels neighborhoods. Revitalization has brought dynamic restaurants, bars, parks, housing and attractions. Locals have seen a visitor boom.
"People like to come here. They like to hang out. They like to visit us."
Here is DUMBO - down under the Manhattan Bridge overpass. It's also under the iconic Brooklyn Bridge with a park, gardens and a carousel with stunning riverside views of Manhattan.
Just north is the converted Brooklyn Navy Yard, now a major tourist and business site.
The Brooklyn Botanical Garden draws a global array of getaway seekers. Not to mention a reborn Coney Island.
Brooklyn has turned it around. When in New York, get there by ferry and subway.
