Twitter War Between GOP Frontrunners Has Political Consultants Rethinking Social Strategy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - GOP Presidential contenders Donald Trump and Ted Cruz continue to push boundaries as their Twitter feud grows more heated and personal.

This election cycle has political consultants rethinking their social strategies.

Philadelphia-based political consultant Mark Nevins suggests less is more for candidates when it comes to social media:

"In my experience when candidates are sending out their own tweets and or posting their own comments to Facebook that's when they get into trouble."

But during this political cycle, he says there is an exception:

"The rules do not seem to apply to Donald Trump. Donald Trump can do anything he wants, say what ever he wants, and it only seems to attract more republican primary voters to his side. So If I was advising Donald Trump I would say keep on doing what you're doing because it's working."

Nevins says in campaigns, there are some unwritten rules:

"You don't call your opponent names, you don't attack your opponent's children and you at least try at some point to get back to the issues."
