Spruce Street Harbor Park Opening Early This Year

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - You'll have some extra time this year to enjoy one of Philadelphia's popular summer attractions.

"Spruce Street Harbor Park will be opening the first weekend of May," says Quinn Logan with the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation.

Initially scheduled to open Memorial Day Weekend, you can now experience the park starting May 6th.

"We just figured there's such great weather in May, we'd love to have everybody down at the park to enjoy for the whole month," she tells KYW Newsradio.

Logan says they hope people will take advantage of the extra time:

"We'd love for people to be able to enjoy the Waterfront before the summer vacation season hits, so for us it's really just about being able to extend the season as long as we can."

She says the park will be open just in time for Mother's Day as well as another big DRWC event:

"That is the weekend of Art Star Craft Bazaar, so it was kind of convenient for us to be opening that weekend and it was just kind of a perfect fit all around."

Logan says expect some "exciting" changes to the park this year.

She says for now, September 25th is the closing date, but she wouldn't rule out the possibility of that being pushed back.
