Music Students Get Inspired By Members Of Philadelphia Orchestra

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- High school students from the Philadelphia School District's orchestra got a chance to play side-by-side some of the best musicians in the world Saturday morning at the Kimmel Center.

The best Philadelphia music students sat and played with the best Philadelphia musicians.

"These students that have been aspiring to play at the highest level, have the opportunity to sit in with the Philadelphia Orchestra and be surrounded by that sound," said Dan Berkowitz, who runs educational and community programs for the Philadelphia Orchestra. "Music education still exists and this is really a representation of what is possible."

Sophomore Eliana embraced the experience.

"The Kimmel Center is awesome," she said, "and these are great musicians."

As did Cheyenne and Emmanuel

"It's really nice, because you get all of these quick tips from them," Cheyenne said. "If you don't know where you are supposed to be in the bow, or if you're confused about a fingering, they will refresh you really quickly about it."

"I was honestly scared about playing with Philadelphia Orchestra members," Emmanuel admitted, "but being able to do so and feeling comfortable is definitely special."
