19-Year-Old Arrested In Murder Of Grandfather In Delaware

NEW CASTLE COUNTY, DE. (CBS) -- Police say they have arrested a 19-year-old man in the murder of his grandfather in New Castle County, Delaware.

Shawn Hagerty was taken into custody after a police chase ended in Chester County.

The investigation began around 8:30 a.m. Friday when the victim's daughter found her father, 69-year-old James Steppi, dead inside his home in the unit block of Indiana Road in the Park Place Trailer Park.

Authorities say during the investigation, it was determined that Hagerty was the last person seen leaving the home in his grandfather's Oldsmobile.

Officers located the vehicle in the area of the unit block of Vansant Road, where the driver sped off leading to a brief pursuit that ended in the unit block of Blue Hen Court in Landenberg, Pennsylvania.

Hagerty was arrested and was expected to be charged with murder in the first degree, robbery in the first degree, and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.
