Search Underway For Man Accused Of Throwing Molotov Cocktail At Home In South Philly

By Mark Abrams

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are seeking an arsonist who apparently used a molotov cocktail to try to start a fire at a home in the 2200 block of South Beechwood Street in South Philadelphia early Tuesday morning.

Fire officials got a call about flames outside the home shortly after 5:30 a.m

One unidentified witness told police she spotted a man wearing a blue jacket, blue hoodie, and khaki paints throw an object at a house, starting a fire.

Police say a glass bottle apparently filled with a flammable liquid and a wick hit, but did not shatter a window of the home there and fell and shattered on the sidewalk where the contents burned.

Another witness told police he confronted the man, but he walked away.

Police are looking for neighborhood surveillance cameras in hopes of identifying the man.

They say they found an unused second molotov cocktail on the sidewalk, a short distance away from the home.
