Police Search For A Pair Of Armed, Masked Robbery Suspects

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The search is on for masked gunmen responsible for a string of violent robberies in Northwest Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Police are sharing surveillance video that could provide clues in the manhunt. Police say they are relieved that no one has been seriously hurt yet, but they say the two suspects are armed and dangerous.

Video shows the suspects, heavily armed with their faces covered by masks, striking at two Philadelphia businesses.

"Without a doubt, this is a serious situation," said Lt. John Stanford of the Philadelphia Police.

The first incident took place on Wednesday, March 2. Authorities say the two victims were waiting for their food at the Silver Star Kitchen at 1400 Vernon Road when the suspects barged in, forced them to the ground and robbed the two.

"If you're a victim that's standing there and you're looking down the barrel of a shotgun, or the barrel of that semi-automatic, again, it's something that I can only imagine that people must be terrified," Stanford said.

The terror continued on the afternoon of March 14, the same two suspects allegedly barged into Reyes Grocery on the 2100 block of Chelten Avenue. This time, the video shows them assaulting a worker before robbing the store.

Stanford said that the main concern is to get two dangerous suspects off the street. The two incidents happened in the West Oak Lane and Ogontz section of the city and police the suspects may be from those neighborhoods.

Anyone with information on the suspects or the incidents is asked to contact police.
