Flu Activity Now Considered Widespread Across Region

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's been a quiet flu season until now. Flu activity is now considered widespread in this area.
Doctors offices are filling up with patients complaining about headaches, fevers, coughs and body aches.
Dr. Christine Stallkamp, Medical Director for Urgent Care for Main Line Health agrees this is a late flu season and one reason it may be spiking now is because many of us got flu shots months ago in August or September.
"Your immunity to the flu shot can decrease over time, generally speaking it lasts for about 6 to 7 months but over time you can lose some of that immunity and that's also why you need a new flu shot every year."
She says another reason it's been a quiet flu season is the weather, flu seasons are worse during cold winters that force us inside where we share all those germs.
