Two Key Positions Expected To Come To Every Philadelphia District School

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia School District intends to have a full-time nurse and guidance counselor in every district school by the fall of 2016.

It's a safety concern that's been plaguing the district; many schools are without a full-time counselor or nurse because of the district's economic struggles.

Now Superintendent William Hite says he intends to place a full-time nurse and counselor in every district school, starting next school year.

"The thing that I'm encouraged about is that for the first time in my four years here," Hite said. "We're not talking about cutting something, but instead we're talking about investments in schools."

Adding the 61 nurses and 42 counselors is contingent upon the passing of Governor Wolf's proposed budget.

The estimated cost is 13 million dollars.
