South Jersey Teen Dies In Pickup Basketball Game

By David Madden

PAULSBORO, NJ (CBS) -- A South Jersey high school student is dead, after collapsing while playing a pickup basketball game Thursday night.

Sixteen-year-old Derrius Moore, a sophomore at Paulsboro High School, was with a group of teens on the court at Loudenslager Elementary School when he collapsed. Police performed CPR and rushed him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His friends and teachers are dealing with the grief of such a sudden loss.

"What I do know of Derrius from peers and from administrators in the district is that he was a wonderful young man and a very well liked student," district Superintendent Dr. Laurie Bandlow told KYW Newsradio.

Some of his friends took to wearing green in his memory, as counselors help them through the pain.

An autopsy has been conducted, but cause of death will await the result of toxicology tests, which could take a few weeks.
