Doug Pederson: 'Sam Bradford Is No. 1, Chase Daniel Is No. 2'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Doug Pederson shot down the QB competition rumors immediately.

Report: Sam Bradford Far From Lock To Be Eagles Starting QB

"Sam Bradford is the number one," the new Eagles head coach said during a press conference on Thursday. "Chase Daniel is the number two. And then we're working on the number three. So I just want to put that out there right now, going forward."

The Eagles recently re-signed Bradford to a two-year worth $36 million and then signed Daniel to a three-year deal worth a minimum of $21 million. Rumors circulated that the two would compete for the starting role.

Pederson wanted to avoid that distraction.

"It eliminates any distraction going forward and now we go out and we play ball from here," he said. "Having a guy like Chase Daniel, who is very familiar with the system, having an opportunity to compete, having an opportunity to be a number two. Very fortunate."

But Pederson did say there is "no drop off" from Bradford to Daniel and admitted that Daniel -- playing for the Kansas City Chiefs for three years --  probably understands his offense and terminology a bit better than Bradford.

The Eagles added five total players in free-agency: S Rodney McLeod, G Brandon Brooks, CB Ron Brooks, LB Nigel Bradham, and Daniel.

"Being a former quarterback, being a backup in this league, having two guys -- we're always going out, we're always gonna get the best players at every position," Pederson said. "You see what we did right here in free-agency the past few days."

What about Mark Sanchez?

"Right now, he's still on the roster," Pederson said. "Again, that's still part of the evaluation process. He could be the No. 3."
