Police: Driver Killed In Kensington Crash

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A fiery car crash in Kensington has left one person dead, and the body burned beyond recognition.
Police say the 2014 Infinity sedan burst into flames at 2nd and Cecil B. Moore a little before 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. This after the vehicle had smashed through a small tree, and went up on a curb according to Chief Inspector Scott Small.
"It hit two street lights, and one traffic light tearing all three from the base. Then it struck a building, then the vehicle went across the street where it came to rest on the northeast corner after striking another building," said Small.
Small says the driver was killed in the blaze, and that the twisted remains of the vehicle will be taken to the medical examiner's office to try to identify the driver.
"The car is damaged so bad, and the body is burned so bad it's not going to be feasible for police to remove the body from the car," said Small.
Small says the vehicle is registered to a home outside of the city, and that police were sent to that residence in an attempt to identify the driver.
He says police are looking into why the vehicle was traveling at such a high rate of speed.
