Seth Joyner: 'Thrilled Beyond Measure' By Howie Roseman

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The majority of Philadelphia Eagles are giving Howie Roseman major props for reportedly unloading three players and their respective contracts: Kiko Alonso and Byron Maxwell to the Dolphins, and DeMarco Murray to the Titans.

Report: Eagles To Trade DeMarco Murray To Titans

Ex-Eagles Pro Bowl linebacker Seth Joyner is of the majority opinion.

"Hey listen, I am thrilled beyond measure at what Howie Roseman has done over the last 24, 48 hours," Joyner told the 94WIP Mike & Ike Show on Tuesday. "My contention was, hey we might have to eat Byron Maxwell's contract, but let's figure out a way to get DeMarco Murray's off the books. And low and behold, he turns around and gets both of them off the books. And I just think it's a good place for where we are and where we need to go."

Murray and Maxwell signed mega five and six-year contracts last offseason, respectively. Alonso, 25, has a 2016 cap hit of less than $1 million and was likely a bargaining chip to get the Dolphins to take on Maxwell's $63 million deal.

Joyner is more than willing to part ways with the injury-prone Alonso.

"I think the injuries will have a lot to do with it long-term," Joyner said of Alonso. "You have to be cognizant of the injuries and what that can look like in the future. The second part is, he's basically going into the last year of his deal. So even if you get him to be the player that you think he could potentially be rolling into after this season, now you've got contract issues that you've got to address with him rolling into next year.

"When you're building a team -- sometimes it's so much more important to look ahead into the future as it is to look in the immediate," he continued. "And one of the things that I've said all along -- once we made the decision to go in a different direction, as far as Chip Kelly was concerned, now we essentially made the decision that we're on the path of rebuilding."
