Hundreds Help Save Babies, Impact Lives At March Of Dimes Fundraiser

TURNERSVILLE, N.J. (CBS) - It was a packed house Saturday night at the 9th annual March of Dimes fundraiser in South Jersey.

David Wagman helped create the event after he and his wife lost their daughter a decade ago before she was born.

"So what we decided to do was find a way to celebrate her yearly and use it as a tool to also generate funds to fight prematurity," he says.

"It's just a great night, it's fun, and you know it's for a good cause," adds Bobby Healey from Drexel Hill.

He's been at the fundraiser before, and says the event keeps growing each year:

"It gets progressively more people, the line for donations is getting longer."

Also attending the event Saturday, Grace from Pitman, New Jersey, who says she can relate to the cause:

"I come because my daughter was premature, so the March of Dimes helped her a lot."

The fundraiser featured dinner, dancing and an auction full of around 150 items.

Everyone who spoke with KYW Newsradio seemed to have an eye on a different prize:

"A grill, and there's a Philly gnome."

"Fire place, the patio sets."

"The bar over there, I told our friends if we win they're taking Uber home so I can put in the back of my truck."

David says while people were having fun, everyone seemed to understand why they're here:

'It's a somber reason, but the bigger side of it is that we are saving babies."

He adds every baby in this country since 1965 has been impacted from the March of Dimes.
