Police: Cook Slashed, Killed During Shift At South Philly Restaurant
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The cook at a South Philadelphia restaurant is dead, and police say she was killed in the kitchen while the restaurant was open for business Thursday night.
There were about ten people inside Lee's Cafe and Bistro when the attack happened, according to Chief Inspector Scott Small. He says there was a struggle in the kitchen that ended with 54-year-old Thoung Nguyen's throat being slashed:
"Not only did she have the deep cut to her neck, she also had some bruising to her face. There was a lot of blood and also some of the kitchen equipment was knocked over."
This happened inside the restaurant at 5th and Washington just after 9 p.m.
The kitchen is in the basement of the building. The first level is takeout and there is dining on the second level.
Authorities are viewing surveillance video looking for clues.
Police say investigators are seeking a male as a person of interest. Police say the male, who goes by the name of "Noelle," is between the ages of 25-30 years-old and drives a white SUV.
Police say anyone with information on the whereabouts of "Noelle" is asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334, or dial 911.
