Police Take Steps To Strengthen Community Relations In Phila.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Police Department is taking steps, and some dance steps are moving to strengthen community relations.
Dozens of residents popped in and out of the 18th police precinct to meet, greet and dance with the men and women in blue.
It was part of the first annual Police Community Day, when each district dedicates a few hours to meet the people they serve, like Valerie.
"I think it's a nice idea, wonderful outreach effort."
Officer Michael Davis is the Community Relations Officer and decided on line dancing with the citizens they protect and serve.
"We just wanted to be creative, we thought it would be a great way to get the community to come out and have the opportunity meet some of the officers that serve the community on a daily basis."
Rev. Wallace attends church in the neighborhood.
"The more we know the police officers, the more we are familiar with them, and their activities the more they are familiar with our situations and our neighborhoods -- the better interaction, the better cohesiveness between the two: the community and the police department."
