Brad Lidge: 2016 Offers 'Unique Opportunity For Young Phillies'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Brad Lidge will forever be a Philadelphia sports hero.

During that unforgettable 2008 World Champion season, "Lights Out" Lidge was perfect (48 for 48) on save opportunities, including the final out of Game 5 of the World Series.

Lidge, 39, now does some work as a MLB radio analyst and chimed in on this year's Phillies' team.

"Everything is cyclical," Lidge told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Thursday. "Listen, this probably won't be the year the Phillies post the highest winning season they've ever had, but maybe it will lead to that with these young guys figuring out what they need to do. Look, I'm still excited about the Phillies this year because it is one of those years where you're really gonna find out who's gonna be able to stick and there's gonna be a lot of opportunity out there for these young guys."

The Phillies enter 2016 with a ton of exciting young talent from starting pitchers Aaron Nola and Jerad Eickhoff, to solidified third baseman Maikel Franco, to prospects like J.P. Crawford, Jake Thompson, Nick Williams, and Mark Appel.

Lidge also offered some advice for the Phillies' young guns, who are blessed with this opportunity to make an impact.

"You want to just be able to get up there and make a good impression, keep your mouth shut among the older guys," Lidge explained. "But I think with where the Phillies are right now -- there's not a ton of older guys -- but the younger guys, like I said, there's an opportunity there that doesn't come around too often. In a lot of different aspects -- I mean, look at the closer position, the set up guys. I mean it's just really, it's completely open and you don't always get that. Even if you're a young guy coming up and your team is kind of marginal, there's not always these opportunities that there is right now for the Phillies. So if I was a young guy in camp right now, I would be so excited to be showing up every single day and really making a big impression on the powers that be."
