Free Office Hours For Entrepreneurs In Need Of Startup Advice

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia's bustling startup scene now has a faculty advisor, of sorts. He's holding free office hours in University City over the next few months, and entrepreneurs are invited.

Brock Weatherup sold his Plymouth Meeting-based e-commerce site Pet360 to PetSmart a couple years ago for $160 million. As the fine print says, results are not typical. But Weatherup wants to inject that kind of confidence into startups.

"How do you bring focus, how do you show progress? Because that's how you build a successful company," Weatherup said. "It's what builds momentum."

He kicks things off Wednesday night with a free reception at Quorum at the Science Center, which is running the Entrepreneur IQ program. Weatherup's office hours will follow next week and again in April and May.

"The community in Philadelphia is incredibly welcoming and highly, highly accessible," he said. "That accessibility is so important for startups to learn how to find their first customers, how to learn where the potholes are in the road, how to figure out what the next opportunity is, how to validate an idea or a concept. That to me offers an unparalleled success opportunity and is a value point for the city of Philadelphia."
