Harlem Globetrotters Return To Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Harlem Globetrotters are back in town, bringing their unique style of basketball to the Philadelphia-area quite a bit in the upcoming months. So what can fans expect at this year's games?

The Globetrotters will be playing ten games in the Philadelphia-area over the next few months, with first being Friday, March 4 at the Liacouras Center.

This is the 90th season of Globetrotter basketball, and El Gato Melendez, now in his fourth year with the team, says they'll be marking the anniversary with throwback uniforms, and by running some plays that were big hits in the past, Melendez says they'll also be paying tribute to past Globetrotters like Meadowlark Lemon and Marques Haynes, who both passed away last year.

"It's a very special feeling to be a part of this. Carrying the torch for Meadowlark Lemon, Curly Neal, Giz Ausbie," Melendez says. "All these guys that actually broke a lot of barriers for what is basketball today in the NBA and for what we do around the world, not just for basketball, but for the community."

And with the city's pro-team struggling a bit this year, Melendez says Globetrotters games could be a nice change of pace.

"Yes, sir! We're going to bring some exciting basketball to town," he says, "so hopefully the Sixers learn some moves out of that and get it going."
