Weekend Box Office Report: 'Deadpool' Lives On Top For Third Straight Week
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On Oscars weekend at the box office, with the Academy Award nominees doing modest business, it was Deadpool staying on top.
The comic book-inspired thriller starring Ryan Reynolds earned an estimated $32-million on its third weekend of release for a third-straight first-place finish.
The weekend's three new attractions did finish in the top six:
The adventure fantasy, Gods of Egypt, placed second with an opening-weekend total of $14-million.
The inspirational bio-drama, Eddie the Eagle, took in just over $6-million, good for fifth place.
And the crime thriller. Triple 9, was sixth with $6-million.
Overall, industry-wide totals were slightly ahead of last weekend and slightly behind those of a year ago.
