'21st' Birthday Celebration For Bucks County Leap Year Baby In His 80's

By Anita Oh, Mike Dougherty

WARMINSTER, Pa. (CBS) – Most people get to celebrate a birthday every year, but not 84-year-old Paul Knebels.

He was born February 29th – which comes only once every four years, and his family in Bucks County decided to celebrate the special day.

"Legally able to have a drink," Paul joked.

He's been alive since 1932, but technically this is only the 21st birthday for the Leap Year baby.

Friends and family helped him celebrate in Warminster by playing some pool and having a few beverages with Paul.

"I think this is terrific," he says. "It's something special."

The party was organized by Knebels' grandson, Steve, who has been talking about this day for years:

"It's a rare fraternity to begin with, the Leap Day or Leap Year baby, there very few milestones those guys can actually celebrate."

At the party, Paul got to look back at some of his milestones before this one.

"It's a very special day," Steve adds.

Paul says two of his favorite birthdays were when he and his son both turned eight the same year and when he and his grandson both turned 15 the same year.

And he says getting to celebrate this birthday with those he loves is another winning moment.
