Phila. SPCA Hosts Adoption Program To Celebrate The Oscars

By Kristen Johanson

PHILADLEPHIA (CBS) -- The SPCA in Philadelphia will be holding a promotion this weekend called the A"cat"emy Awards and Red Car"Pit" Celebration.

"We are looking to get animals out of here, and into happy homes," says adoption manager Deanna Schmidt.

"Whatever amount that they would like to donate, from a dollar, up.  And with the adoption, the animal is up to date on shots, it is spayed or neutered.  It is micro-chipped, and it comes with 30 days worth of free emergency insurance."

About 30 adult pit bulls and 30 adult cats are available to adopt at the Erie Avenue, Fishtown and Danville locations.

And if you're unsure?

"A great pet owner is someone who is going to commit to their new animal, they want to give an animal a new home, they want to give it love and care," said Schmidt.

The adoption promotion will run on both Saturday and Sunday of this weekend.
