Tree Takes Down Wires, About 1,000 Without Power In Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Pa., (CBS) – Officials say a tree took down wires, causing thousands of outages in Springfield, Delaware County.

PECO says it happened at about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday near Springfield and Indian Rock Roads.

This initially impacted service to about 2,100 customers in the area, according to PECO.

"Lights all went out, they went out and then they came back on, then they went out and they just stayed out. So it was a lot," said a neighbor. "It was really loud, the whole house kind of shook a little bit. Then I looked outback, because there's other power lines outback to see what was going on, then I came out front and I saw that whole pole on fire."

The pole is still on fire at this time.

PECO says crews are on site, working to isolate the damage caused by the tree and are safely working to restore service to customers as quickly as possible.

As of 4 p.m. more than half of those customers have been restored, according to PECO.
