Loving Son Or Guilty Of Murder? Fate Of Exton Man In Hands Of Chester County Jury

By Jim Melwert

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (CBS) -- The fate of an Exton man who is facing murder charges in the death of his elderly father is now in the hands of the jury, after four hours of closing arguments.

Edward O'Brien III is charged with 3rd degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, and recklessly endangering another person.

Closing arguments took about four hours in total.

Prosecutor Ronald Yen showed photos of dried feces on the bed and carpet in the room where the father, 92-year-old Edward O'Brien, Junior, died, Yen, arguing the defendant didn't get his father medical care or put him in a nursing home so he would get the money.

But defense attorney Joseph Green showed medical records dating back more than a decade which he says show the son was actively involved in his father's medical care.

Green contends the son was simply carrying out a promise to his father to never put him in a home, and that his dad simply wouldn't cooperate with medical treatment.
