What's Cooking on 1060: Fundraiser, New Shop At Reading Terminal Market

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Reading Terminal Market hosts its annual fundraising party this weekend, and a new vendor will be opening shop there in the Spring.

Anuj Gupta, the market's General Manager, says this Saturday's 'Party For the Market' showcases the best of the indoor marketplace:

"It's really a great sampling of everything we have here at the market; from desserts to mini-cheesesteaks to dumplings and everything in between."

He says the space is transformed from casual to formal quite quickly:

"We will shut down at our regular time Saturday afternoon and an hour later we'll be transported into this beautiful cocktail lounge!"

This foodie event is a fundraiser, he says:

"We have a 130 year old building nearly and as you can imagine, it presents any number of capital needs over the course of a year; so that's what this event is intended for, to help us maintain a first class facility for many years to come."

This weekend's party is also the perfect place to reveal Reading Terminal Market's newest business "Condiment." It's be owned by current market tenant Elizabeth Halen of Flying Monkey Bakery:

"And we'll actually be showcasing our first dish at Party To The Market in collaboration with Nick from La Divisa," she says. " We're making a black pepper cracker with a piece of Nick's cotto salami and ginger pear jam to go on top of it."

She says they still have some construction to do but, "We're hoping to launch right around Memorial Day or the beginning of June to get ahead of BBQ season."
