District Attorney Speaks On Assault Probe

By Walt Hunter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Breaking his silence, District Attorney Seth Williams spoke publicly for the first time about the investigation involving former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy and 3 others in connection with an alleged assault on 2 off-duty Philadelphia Police officers 12 days ago inside a Center City "after hours" social club. No one has been charged in the attack.

"My job is to get it right, not get it fast," Williams told a noon hour press conference, refusing to provide any details of the investigation or to say when or if any charges might ever be filed against McCoy or anyone else.

"My job," Williams told reporters, "is to make sure the right charges are filed, if at all."

Williams' press conference came less than 4 hours after CBS 3's Walt Hunter interviewed Fraternal Order of Police President John McNesby who expressed concern about why no charges had been filed.

"Take a look at the video, charge these folks and then move on," McNesby stated, referring to several videos of the incident.

"We're not going to sit by and let this get swept under the rug, absolutely not."

The FOP President says he has received no assurances from the DA on when or if any charges might be filed.

"We're not asking for the world," McNesby added, "we're just asking that these guys be charged."

McCoy's attorney did not respond to a request for comment.
