Man Shot Multiple Times, Killed In West Philly Ambush

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Police say a man is dead after he was shot several times late Wednesday night in the Cobbs Creek section of Philadelphia.

This happened just after 11 p.m. on the 300 block of South 52nd Street.

Police say arriving officers found a 31-year-old man shot multiple times in his legs and back. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police say the victim appeared to be shot at close range, just outside his car.

"The victim exited the driver door and when he walked onto the curb, the shooter walked up within feet and fired at least six shots," says Chief inspector Scott Small.

There is no motive at this time, but police say they believe the victim -- who lives close to where he was shot -- was the intended target.

Police are now questioning witnesses and say there were nearby surveillance cameras they can review.

An investigation is ongoing.
