PA House GOP Spokesman: Kane Impeachment Process Will Continue

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- A spokesman for majority Republicans in the state House says Kane's decision not to seek re-election will not derail the impeachment process that began last week.

The House last week authorized an impeachment investigation of Kane. Steve Miskin, spokesman for the House majority leader, says realistically, the earliest the House could vote on impeachment would be May.

If the vote is yes, the Senate would have to hold a trial after that. By then, there would only be a few months left in Kane's term. But Miskin says the process will not stop.

"It is something the members feel is very important to protect the integrity of the office of the attorney general, or to try and rebuild the integrity of the office of attorney general."

Miskin says impeachment is about whether Kane engaged in misbehavior in office, not about whether she should run again.
