Allentown Officer Shot In Arm Serving Warrant In Case Of Woman Found In Bin

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (CBS/AP) — A detective in Allentown investigating the death of a woman found in a recycling bin was injured in a shootout as he tried to serve a warrant in the case.

Allentown Police Chief Keith Morris says officers were approaching an apartment's door Tuesday night when they were met with gunfire. He says officers returned fire.

He says the gunman barricaded himself inside before police stormed the home and took him into custody early Wednesday. No charges were announced.

The detective was hospitalized in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the left arm. The suspect was hospitalized but his condition wasn't released. Neither was identified and police have not released the nature of the warrant.

"He kept to himself," said Barbara Roman of the man that lived in the home. "He did not bother anybody. Neighbor Tom Follweiler says he often saw a woman walking with the man that police now believe may be connected to the slaying.

"What really got me strange was when they said she wore black slacks and black and white shoes that were Nikes. I used to always see her with the black and white shoes on and that's when it hit home," Follweiller said.

The apartment is near where the woman's body was found Sunday in a large blue recycling container.

Authorities say she died of multiple gunshot wounds.
