Valentine's Day Brought Big Sales At Local Flower Stores

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Sunday might have been Valentine's Day, but for many it was more like Christmas. Area florists saw a big boost of business this year for the romantic holiday. The Flower Shop in East Mount Airy was the place to be on Sunday for last minute gifts.

The Rose flower shop at the corner of Ogontz and Stenton opened their doors just after sunrise, and just before 7, customers were already buying flowers and gifts for their valentines.

Store owner Bill Richardson said today was similar to their Super Bowl.

"We don't open until 8, but they started coming in around 6 because they were watching channel 3."

So Richardson stocked up with thousands of flowers, chocolates, cuddly teddy bears, stacked to the ceiling. Michael Alston was picking up four dozen roses for his wife Ashley.

"We've been married two years now and every day is great, even the bad ones."
