AC Boat Show Opens

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., (CBS) -- Thousands are expected at the Atlantic City Boat Show, a five-day event at the Convention Center that kicked off Wednesday morning.

So why AC in the middle of winter?

"It is full of diehard boaters and fishing enthusiasts who just love to come out and shop the show," spokeswoman Carrie Waible told KYW Newsradio.

There's boats of all sorts, including a 53-foot yacht that can be yours. For $1.3 million.

"That's a lot," said Cris Gleason, who took a good long look at what what's been dubbed the Queen of the Show. "The interesting thing, though, is that because boat prices have been rising so fast, many folks have actually been buying a boat, keeping it for a few years and then they've been able to sell at the same price that they bought it at."

For landlubbers, there's entertainment that includes an extreme pogo team.

What's that, you ask? Bryan Pognant is a pro.

"It's somewhat like Motorcross or BMX and we take them high into the air, 10 feet, and do flips, tricks and try to throw our bodies down the stairs and other things like that," he said.

This event is competing with the Philadelphia Auto Show this week. But truth be told, the boat show attracts people from Baltimore to New York west to Harrisburg.

It's an annual family affair for the Moretti Family from Ridley Township, Delaware County. Husband Michael says, "It brings the family together. Boating." His wife Erika chimes in, "There's always something new out there that we want to see."

The show runs through Sunday.
