Delaware County Man Waives Preliminary Hearing In Shooting Death Of Friend

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A 32-year-old Delaware County man who is charged with shooting a friend while playing with a handgun has waived his preliminary hearing. As the case goes to common pleas court, his attorney says they're working towards a plea-agreement with prosecutors in hopes of sparing the victim's family a trial.

Roger McBride faces several charges, including Third Degree Murder in the shooting death of 33-year-old Jami Vincent.

His attorney, Scott Kramer, says his client waived his preliminary hearing in hopes that it will help speed the healing process for both sides, as conversations continue with prosecutors on a plea agreement.

"Basically, everyone was very good friends with each other," Kramer says. "This was basically an accident. The facts speak for themselves."

According to the criminal complaint, friends were meeting at the Eddystone home to go out for dinner. It says McBride was playing with a friend's handgun, which he thought was empty. A witness to the shooting told police McBride put the gun to Vincent's forehead, and pulled the trigger, and the gun went off.

McBride's girlfriend came downstairs when she heard the shot. Saw Vincent on the floor. The complaint says when she asked McBride what he'd done, he allegedly replied, "My life is over, my life is over."
