Crews Work Around The Clock To Stay Ahead Of Fast Falling Snow In Chester County
PAOLI, Pa., (CBS) -- Crews in Chester County battled for more than 24 hours to stay ahead of fast-falling snow that accumulated more than 2 feet in most neighborhoods.
Along Route 202 near Route 29 in East Whiteland Township, plow trains tried to keep the normally busy highway open as flakes fell heavily, whipped by bitter winds.
Fortunately, few drivers braved local roads and there were no reports of serious accidents as the storm finally moved away around 10 p.m. Saturday evening.
Because the dry powdery snow did not cling to wires and trees,power outages were not a major problem.
County fire officials asked residents to please take a few moments to clear away snow from fire hydrants, so first responders would not be delayed on emergency calls.
They also cautioned home owners to make sure heater intake vents are free from snow, after a blocked vent in one home caused carbon monoxide to accumulate inside.
