Still Swinging: Local Woman Turning 100 Reveals Her Secret To Long, Happy Life

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  Bobbie Rose is still swinging at 99. "I've always been young in spirit," she said, and believes age is just a number.

"It doesn't define who I am. Any of the birthdays I've ever had I was always happy to have them."

In between those birthdays, she's done a little bit of everything, excelling at pretty much all of it.

A star athlete for all of her life, she's passionate about golf.

She plays regularly and even has a tournament named in her honor.

She picked up the game decades ago in a decidedly different time for women in sports.

"It was the long skirts and the hat. I didn't know any different so when I look back at these pictures and see them, I'm hysterical," she told Eyewitness News.

Then there's Bobbie Rose the artist, who's created rugs, sculptures, among other things.

And so it goes, her home filled with expressions of her never-ending creativity.

"It has to be my way. It may not be anybody else's way, it's gotta be my way and it's all imagination that comes into it."

But when you talk to her, it's her family, two children, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren that clearly make Rose the happiest.

"The important thing for me to do is to keep them together and I think I've done a pretty good job."

One look at Bobbie Rose, the twinkle still in her eyes and a true enjoyment of life and well, it's something we can all hope for as the years go by.

"Everybody else is making a big fuss over me being 100. That's not my thought at all. I'm just happy to be able to do the things I do," she explained.

Turns out gratitude might just be the secret to a long, happy life.
