10 Things From Doug Pederson's Press Conference

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- New head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, Doug Pederson, was introduced during a Tuesday afternoon press conference. Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie was also there fielding questions from the appropriately aggressive media members.

Between Pederson, Lurie, and even Howie Roseman -- who spoke to reporters after the presser -- there was plenty of information to sift through.

Here are 10 things from the Pederson introductory presser, with some commentary underneath.

  • Doug Pederson described his offense as "west coast ish" and "hybrid."
    • Explanation: It's Andy Reid's offense, adjusted for the modern day fast-paced, offensive oriented game. Great.
  • Pederson also said Sam Bradford fits his system "perfectly," calling him a "top-notch" QB.
    • Way to show your hand Doug! Tom Condon is somewhere rubbing his hands together.
    • So this means they want to hinder their cap, keep Bradford, and win now with a Pederson-Bradford combo? Ugh.
  • Lurie says the Eagles will begin searching for a new "player personnel head" this week, but would not reveal how the power structure between the new hire, Roseman, and Tom Donahoe would play out.
    • I feel like this is something Jeffrey Lurie decided after the Roseman backlash following the release of Chip Kelly. "Fine, we'll get another guy."
  • Lurie did say "accountability" will be his top priority. When pressed on how personnel folks will be held accountable, Lurie just kept repeating the "accountability," basically.
    • Your top priority should be winning and really, that's all that matters to the fans.
  • Pederson admitted to calling plays for the second halves of games with the Kansas City Chiefs and took responsibility for the botched final drive in Saturday's playoff game against the New England Patriots.
  •  Pederson said he will call the plays for the Eagles.
    • Woo hoo!
  • Lurie admitted the Eagles amazingly began the coaching search during the season, started with 25 names, got to 10, interviewed six, and then hired Pederson.
    • So while Chip Kelly was looking for his second divisional title in three years to start his NFL coaching career, Roseman and Lurie were scheming and compiling names to replace him.
  • Someone actually asked Pederson about where he wants to have training camp and Pederson leaned toward keeping it at the Linc.
    • You're the new head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles! Where the heck will training camp be? "Who cares."
  • Pederson said while Andy Reid is a mentor, this is NOT an Andy Reid football team. However, he then said it's not a Doug Pederson football team either, but rather a Philadelphia Eagles football team.
    • Woah! Newsflash. This is a Philadelphia Eagles football team. Big, if true.
