Bitter Cold Hits Philadelphia Region

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Old man winter finally awake and stirring again.

So with coffee in hand, hood on head, and sometimes only eyes visible, folks in Center City are doing their best Tuesday to protect against winter's frigid grip.

Many though not really up for small talk with temperatures below freezing.

And the wind certainly not helping how it feels out here today. Forecasters are expecting wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour.

That meant temperature in the teens this morning felt more like single digit weather.

Over at the 69th Street Terminal in Upper Darby, the wind chill factor made it feel close zero.

People heading to work and school couldn't find refuge fast enough.

"Yeah it's really cold out here this morning. Bundle up because it's cold out here."

"It is freezing."

These SEPTA buses, a beacon of hope for commuters on a cold morning.

"They're like oh it's nice and warm on here," said the driver.

But it's not all dread.

"It's a nice change."

And many back in Center City agree.

"I spent the last eight years in Nebraska so this is nothing," said Rachel Ward.

Some are even looking forward to snow.

"If it's on a weekend," said Mary Anne Dunn.

"It's been such a warm winter, I'm ready for it," said Ward.
