Update: Suspect In Deadly Homeless Shelter Shooting Turns Himself In
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The man who Philadelphia police say is responsible for a murder at a city homeless shelter over the weekend is in custody.
Police sources tell Eyewitness News 32-year-old John Brock turned himself in to authorities, without an attorney, and is currently being interviewed by Homicide detectives.
Earlier, Homicide Captain James Clark said Brock shot two people at the Station House Homeless shelter on North Broad Street after an apparent confrontation on Saturday.
Clark says Brock returned Sunday morning with a gun, highly intoxicated and after curfew hours, and shot 43-year-old Edward Barksdale and 26-year-old Lamont Barham.
Lamont Barham's dad says he never thought the very place his son loved would become the place he'd almost lose his life.
"He loves it, ya know? Every time I turn around, he's at work," Robert McCurdy said of his son.
Barham had worked at the shelter for four years. He survived with a single gunshot to his hip.
His co-worker and friend Barksdale, did not. Police say he was shot five times.
"That's the first thing he told me you know, that he got killed right in front of me," McCurdy said, of what his son said following the incident.
Barham is hospitalized in stable condition. Brock faces charges of murder, attempted murder, weapons violations and other crimes.
