Montco Man Expected To Surrender To Police In Connection With Fatal Drunk Driving Accident

SOUDERTON, Pa. (CBS) -- A Montgomery County man is expected to surrender to police next week in connection with an accident which killed his passenger.

The Montgomery County District Attorney's office says 26-year-old Corey Mitchell of Souderton will be charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence and other crimes in connection with the accident on December 27th.

The DA's office says Mitchell was driving north on Easton Road, and attempted a left hand turn onto County Line Road, directly in the path of a tractor trailer.

The rig hit the car and killed 25-year-old Erik Detweiler, who was in the passenger seat of the vehicle. Detweiler was living in California, but visiting family in Quakertown over the holidays.

An investigation showed Mitchell was driving without headlights, ran a red traffic signal while turning in front of the rig and had a blood-alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit.
