Local Teen Wins App Design Competition And Scores Trip To Super Bowl

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  A local teen earned herself a trip to San Francisco because of her award-winning idea.

13-year-old Ciara Dubeck is an eighth grader at Our Lady of Calvary.

She entered a competition, sponsored by software giant SAP and hosted by GENYOUth, last fall to create an app that tackles health issues at school.

"They can earn points and rewards based on their competing in different health challenges like a pedometer challenge, a fitness challenge," Dubeck explained.

Her idea beat out 50 others locally and then went into the running for the National Honors.

The school even made a video to help with voting.

"We had nearly 10,000 people vote in that competition and Ciara's project was selected," Tom Bonner, of GENYOUth, said.

This isn't just a formality, SAP is totally beyond her idea.

Dubeck won $11,000 in grant money to build the app and an all-expense paid trip to the Super Bowl for her and her whole family.

But before the big game, she will meet up with mentors to help her design the future of her app.
