Donations Help Local Music Students Keep On Rockin’

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Two non-profits teamed up to provide instruments for music programs at ten schools, including the Ben Franklin Learning Center in Philadelphia.

Forget about the flutes and clarinets. These students are rocking with electric guitars and drums, thanks in part to Little Kids Rock and BeachGlow, whose founder is 20-year-old Dane Kunkel.

“This year we funded eight Philadelphia schools and two Atlantic City schools,” he tells KYW Newsradio. “It’s a great to connect people and give back, so I thought why not take those two things and combine them? Make it something good and have a good time doing it.”

Music teacher Michelle Frank says this means the world to her and her students:

“If we can excite their interest through music that they listen to every day, that’s part of their everyday lives, then we build a true passion for music.”
