Now LIVE: Periscope Videos Play Directly In Twitter Feed

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Hoping to capitalize on the growing popularity of video, Twitter is rolling out a new feature to bring live stream broadcasts directly into tweets.

Live videos and replays from the Twitter-owned video-streaming app Periscope will now play directly in the main Twitter app, in feeds, profile pages and search results.

Previously, users could tweet links to Periscope videos, but could only view the videos on Periscope's standalone app.

The move exposes Periscope videos to Twitter's approximately 320 million monthly active users and could help grow the audience of Periscope-creators.

Currently, the update is only available for iOS, but Twitter plans to extend the feature to its website and Android app soon.

Twitter acquired Periscope in early 2015 for about $100 million. Periscope CEO Kayvon Beykpour says people have created more than 100 million live broadcasts since the app launched in March.
