Mike Mayock: 'What About Paul Guenther?'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- "What about Paul Guenther? Give the Philly guy a shot!" That's NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock on Wednesday's 94WIP Morning Show discussing the Eagles' coaching search.

The Eagles -- who seem to have Tom Coughlin, Doug Pederson, and Pat Shurmur at the top of their list -- are reportedly done interviewing candidates for now.

But Mayock, also Philly native, brought up Guenther -- the Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator from Richboro, PA.

"If you look back at a history of Super Bowl winners you're going to find more of them come from the defensive side of the ball," Mayock told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show. "And that's typically because they're not tied to a quarterback and they really gotta scheme week-by-week-by-week to win games. Mike Zimmer has done an unreal job and that's what Paul Guenther is. He's a Mike Zimmer type guy, he's got an edge to him, and he grew up in Philly. I think they're gonna have to interview him sooner or later."

Cataldi had another creative idea for the Eagles: hire Mayock himself as a personnel guy. Mayock scoffed at the idea.

"I'm trying to ignore you," Mayock responded. "I know exactly what you're doing. Let's be honest here, the last guy that somebody pulled out of television to be a general manager or in personnel was...Matt Millen."
