On Eve Of Senate Hearing, Kane Seeks Reinstatement Of Law License

By Tony Romeo

HARRISBURG, Pa., (CBS) -- A special state Senate committee is scheduled to hold a hearing today on the future of embattled Attorney General Kathleen Kane. But Kane has made a last-minute appeal to the Supreme Court aimed at making that hearing unnecessary.

The hearing is intended to give Kathleen Kane an opportunity to make her case before a special Senate committee examining whether she can function with her law license under suspension. In a written response to the committee, Kane Monday reiterated her position that the Senate process that could lead to her removal is not legitimate. And while Kane could designate someone to appear before the committee on her behalf, her spokesman Chuck Ardo reiterated that she would not appear before the panel in person.

"She believes that appearing before the committee would help legitimize its actions, and she doesn't want to do anything that would do that," said Ardo.

But in a move that seems intended to render the hearing moot, Ardo confirmed that late Monday Kane made an emergency petition to the state Supreme Court seeking to lift the suspension of her law license imposed last fall.
